Ep. 1 | 2024 Goal: “Public Speaking”
Hi, this is Kate Zurenko, host of the podcast Practices is Progress. I've curated content and interviews to inspire and to help fast forward your solopreneur success by learning from others who are sharing real examples of what it takes to create and to run a business from within their own four walls. I hope these real-life experiences are inspiration to what is possible. I am driven every day not only to create a successful business, but one that is sustainable. And I know it's possible for you, too.
Hello all! I'm going to jump right in by saying I'm so excited to be here. And most of all, I'm really excited that I have found the courage this year to take on something that I'm very uncomfortable doing. And that's something that's putting myself out there to the masses.
I spent the last few years growing my business from within my own four walls while raising a family. My business was born out of the desire to be a stay at home mom, all while seeking out ways to keep my brain engaged. And although I've been fortunate to have organically grown my business over the years, and I've pushed myself in many ways, I've avoided marketing altogether.
No newsletter, no Instagram, only amazing referrals from those who have believed in me.
My very happy place, my comfort zone, has to be the hundreds of hours working one-on-one with my clients. It really is where I thrive. Speaking outside my one-on-one bubble is unchartered territory and one that I'm ready to take on this year to build as a new skill. This is what inspired the name of my podcast, Practice is Progress.
Well, that and my nine-year-old who shared that saying with me recently as he worked through something challenging.
It made me pause and reflect deeply that the only way for anyone to make progress is indeed through practice. Looking back at my skills, even ones that are now expert level, they didn't happen overnight, nor are they perfect now. Nobody is. And as a recovering perfectionist, this feels so good to lean into.
I'm approaching 2024 with a new mindset that of practice is progress and to do needle moving work, even if it's messy. There's always opportunity to go back and refine, but there is nothing to refine if no action has been taken. This is a hard one for me, but I'm dedicated to give it my best try.
And with that sentiment in mind, I have an incredible lineup of other solopreneurs in in various parts of their business journeys. They are willing to share the ups and downs, wins and failures, and the determination it takes to pave the path of what business ownership means to them and the value they're trying to create.
Thank you so much for those who have believed in me over the years and for those cheering me on as I step completely out of my comfort zone to hopefully spread inspiration to those tackling their entrepreneurial journey from within their own four-walls.
